Your request for comment on pecan halves took me by surprise. My days till now have given little thought to the nuts I eat, especially when not involved in picking or shelling. Yet simple and routine things can be opportunities for meditation and reverie, as exemplified by Marcel Proust who begins his Search for Lost Time with a pages of memories while sipping tea and eating a madeleine pastry. Similarly by Almanzo WIlder in Laura Ingalls Wilder's book Farmer Boy, whereby in youth he used to examine each popcorn kernel in hope of a duplicate, and continued the practice in adulthood when married to Laura. So my eating of pecans may become more deliberate and aware, a change from merely tossing a handful into a salad or bowl of yogurt and masticating with no sense of individuality.
